Why Keeping Your KYC (Know Your Client) Information Up to Date Matters

As your life changes, your financial plan should change with it. Keeping your Know Your Client (KYC) information up to date helps ensure that the advice and recommendations you receive continue to reflect your current goals, circumstances, and priorities.
If you’ve recently received a call, email, or meeting invitation from our team requesting an update to your KYC information, you may be wondering why these reviews are necessary.
Why Are KYC Reviews Important?
KYC is a process used by financial institutions to collect and maintain important client information. While these reviews are a regulatory requirement, they also help ensure your advisor has an accurate understanding of your current situation when discussing your financial goals and planning needs.
Keeping your information current allows us to provide advice that is better aligned with your needs and objectives. It also supports important regulatory requirements, investor protection initiatives, and anti-money laundering and fraud prevention measures.
What Information Is Included in a KYC Review?
As part of the review process, we may ask you to confirm information such as your address, employment status, income, assets and liabilities, trusted contact person information, and any significant life changes that may have occurred since your last review.
Accurate information helps ensure that account updates, document processing, and other administrative requirements can be completed efficiently. In some cases, outdated information may result in account restrictions until required updates have been completed.
How Often Are KYC Reviews Required?
For managed accounts, KYC information is reviewed annually to help ensure that your financial plan, investment objectives, and overall circumstances remain current. Updates may also be required sooner if there are significant changes in your personal or financial situation.
To help make the review process as smooth as possible, we may ask you to complete a client profile update form before your meeting and, when appropriate, provide supporting documents such as a Notice of Assessment or other relevant financial information.
When Should You Update Your Information?
You do not need to wait for your next scheduled review to inform us of significant life changes. Events such as retirement, marriage or divorce, the sale of a business, an inheritance, a new job, or a significant change in financial circumstances can all affect your financial plan and the information we maintain on your file.
